What's the Project?
My final project for Design 100 was a self portrait based on my social media presence. Because design is all about the visuals, I decided to use my Instagram presence. I wasn't sure where to start, so what better to do than make lists? I sorted all my pictures into categories to see what I post about most. The top three categories were friends, food, and art. Some of the others were family (this included my cat), events, nail designs, and school. So after creating all this information, it made me think of how I could organize it...graphs! A pie chart was perfect because I could mesh it with a self portrait.

What does it all mean?
Because of the way I present myself on social media, people do not always see me for who I am. Their perceptions alter what they see. This is why the final piece doesn't resemble me very closely. I don't really identify with it. Yes, this piece shows my passions and interests. And yes, they are distinct and sometimes hard to fit together, but they make up who I am. The problem is that others pick and choose what they want to see instead of trying to connect the dots. They add their own filters to my life. This piece is my reflection on how, and if, that alters who I am.
